As I mentioned yesterday about fine wines and patience.... doing so has paid off. Starting next week I will be full-time at the paper which means I will no longer be a walking, ticking time bomb in terms of a lack of health insurance.
Whew.
I just have to make it through the weekend and the time it takes HR to get the paperwork to me which means I must be vigilant about hanging pianos, airplanes falling from the sky and MAC trucks. The latter being especially ironic when I drove around the down-town circle the other day for the post office and there sat the largest MAC grill in my passenger side window I've ever seen. It wasn't that we were about to have a collision or anything of that nature, he was simply stopped close to where the PO is and I had to squirm the possessed Neon ahead of him. Those big ol' silver letters seemed enormous for some reason. Oh, maybe that's because they were!
Anyway, it's odd how this all worked out in regards to my getting full time due to the daytime paginator leaving. First off, I will never be able to thank my editor enough for going to bat for me and believe me, she did, and I'm forever grateful. Also, it's ironic considering a few weeks ago, under rather cloak and dagger circumstances, (Only a handful of people even knew) I had a job interview at an old haunt. It was a two-fold situation where I needed the full-time for benefits and it was closer to home. However, oddities of oddities, no sooner had I walked into the place then did something in my gut tell me it wasn't the right move. It wasn't them or the job or anything of that nature, it was simply that knowing. Now look, or low 'n behold, patience and gut-instincts paid off. Well, not really paid, I will actually lose money being gainfully insured, but I'm not about to complain. Oh no, not when a simple ailment for moi turned into a few grand worth of bills.
Being without health insurance for a year and a half has not been a pretty but certainly a learning experience, let me tell you that much. It would be nice to say it has been enlightening but it was miserable, insulting in how I was treated on some occasions and you'd better believe I will be watching how the health care reform bill pans out. In short, and what I mean to say, is that you will not hear a peep of complaint from me about premiums, deductibles, co-pays, what have you. I will take my health insurance and be grateful, thank you very much.
Having health insurance is all in the nick of time, too, considering that by the time I take over daytime pagination, while still performing some reporting duties, school work, the government academy coming before too long, the neurofeedback program starting here in the blink of an eye, Brianne's impending guitar lessons and a few other chaotic transpirings... yours truly will be in a corner, sucking her thumb, in need of therapy or some seriously strong meds.
I can certainly say my life is not the least bit boring, ever.
And that IS the understatement of the year.
... more in the works, stay tuned...
